Futuretopias issue
The artist is interviewed by Arca, John Waters, Janet Mock, Billy Porter and more for our summer issue exploring the shape of things to come

What does Frank Ocean’s ‘Futuretopia’ look like?

This generation’s most enigmatic star fronts our summer 2019 issue, an edition that looks to the movements and individuals moulding what's to come. The artist was interviewed by his close collaborators, friends, peers, and fans, in a rare feature that presents Frank Ocean as he is now – we see it as a kind of future archive. Expect thoughtful, expansive questions put to the musician from Arca, John Waters, Billy Porter, and more.

Continuing the explorative theme, we're presenting a series of essays where we unpack the movements in the now that are helping us map an uncertain future world; from ethical hacking, to drugs-based mental health research and gaming, while a one-of-a-kind portfolio illustrates the New York-based creatives future-proofing their respective fields in sex work, design, fashion, food, and more.

Elsewhere in the issue, breakout star of Native Son and If Beale Street Could Talk KiKi Layne reflects on the new era of Hollywood narratives as she prepares to go to the Met Ball, and we pay a visit to Savage Ranch, Love Bailey’s queer utopia in the California desert. Cult director Jim Jarmusch talks to Adam Driver, the star of his highly-anticipated upcoming zombie flick The Dead Don’t Die, and, as she says bye to her Game of Thrones character Brienne of Tarth, Gwendoline Christie reflects on playing the bitch in twisted new A24 horror, In Fabric.
