OLD ARCADE MACHINES
ARTIST
Daniel Gryningstjerna
SOFTWARE
Blender, Photoshop
Freelance 3D artist Daniel Gryningstjerna used Blender to model this nostalgic scene. Rendering in Eevee, he used Blender’s compositor to add glare, noise and chromatic aberration, and Photoshop for colour correction and to add extra dust. “It took around two days to model everything and create the lighting,” recalls Gryningstjerna. “The artwork was originally rendered in Cycles for a weekly Blender Artists challenge, but a few days later I test-rendered it in Eevee to see how close I could match the Cycles result. Not only did it render much faster, it was also completely noise-free. While the Cycles version was more realistic, the real-time Eevee version closer matched the feeling of nostalgia I wanted to convey, since I could adjust the lighting easier and faster.”
