BETWEEN Art Antiques London’s charity preview on Thursday, June 23 and the opening day on Friday, June 24, Britain elected to leave the EU.
This Nymphenburg coffee pot and cover was made c 1760-65 and was one of the pieces sold from the stand of European porcelain specialists E&H Manners, taking a price in the region of £20,000.
During that first day whispered conversations (‘where were you when it happened?’) among visitors were joined by speculation between dealers on what the exit would mean for the trade (anything from the immediate effect of a drop in the pound to the repeal of the Artist’s Resale Right).
