Whyte’s broker sale of Orpen archive

One of the drawings in the Orpen archive acquired by the National Gallery of Ireland.

AN archive of 400 letters and drawings by Sir William Orpen (1878-1931) has been acquired by the National Gallery of Ireland in a deal brokered by Dublin auctioneers Whyte’s.

The collection was sold by a descendant of the artist who lives in England and includes 200 letters to his wife Grace Orpen. It also features finished sketches, photographs and other memorabilia.
