Twain sets the pace in third Neville sale

This 1950 copy of The Simple Art of Murder was one that Raymond Chandler inscribed on the day of publication to Juanita Messick, his favourite and longest-serving La Jolla secretary. It sold for $5500 (£4265) at Sotheby’s New York.

Finely bound sets feature here in a second selection of high spots from a third Sotheby’s New York (25/20/12.5% buyer’s premium) sale of modern literature from the Maurice Neville library held on April 25.
