A selection of good online illustrations plus a brief noncommittal description can be the regional auctioneer’s safest route when offering Chinese works of art and it proved successful when this porcelain bowl, above, was consigned to the September 7 sale Greenslade Taylor & Hunt (19% buyer’s premium) held at Taunton.
Decorated in enamel and gilt with a procession of figures and a six character Qianlong mark to the base, the 6½in (17cm) diameter bowl was estimated at £40-60. It had a substantial replaced chip.
