Bid to a rather higher than suggested £1300 in a Lawrences (22% buyer’s premium) sale of December 8 in Crewkerne were two early 19th century works on water meadows.
The key work, I believe, was an 1806 first in repaired but original boards of Observations on the Utility, Form and Management of Water Meadows.
Printed by Longmans of Norwich in 1806 and illustrated with two folding and engraved plates, this was an early work by William Smith, best known for his pioneering geological maps of England and Wales.
