Max Beckmann’s Ägypterin (Egyptian Woman) which sold for €4.7m (£4.16m) at Grisebach in Berlin.
It took less than five minutes for a work by Max Beckmann (1884-1950) to become the most expensive painting ever sold at a German auction (as noted briefly in ATG No 2346).
On May 31, in Berlin, Grisebach (30/25/20% buyer’s premium) offered Beckmann’s Weiblicher Kopf in Blau und Grau (Female Head in Blue and Grey) for a guide price of €1.5m-2m.
