This Irish pitch pine saddle horse is coming up for auction in Tennants’ Country House Sale on September 21-22 in Leyburn, North Yorkshire.
Dating from the late 19th century, it was made for cleaning, storing and repairing tack by the ironworking firm of Musgrave & Co in Belfast.
Founded in 1843, the family business grew from its beginnings as hardware merchant to manufacturer of its own heating stoves and patented stable and cow-house fittings. From 1890-1914 the trade in stable fittings flourished and the firm was commissioned to fit out stables for the king of Spain and the cattle barons of South America.
