The French-Israeli businessman, the 60th-richest person in the world according to Forbes, was born into a Jewish family in Morocco and moved to France as a teenager. He has French, Portuguese, and Israeli citizenship and now lives in Switzerland. The telecom magnate owns 60% of Altice, the company he founded which invests and controls telecoms, media and mobile operators such as France’s largest cable operator Numericable and Cablevision in the US. He made the offer for Sotheby’s through BidFair USA, a company he owns.
