VOLUNTEERS have been working hard improving one of the area’s war memorials.
The site now occupied by Argyll Caravan park was used as the base for a military training camp during the Second World War. HMS Quebec Combined Operations Training Centre was used to train troops from allied countries in amphibious assault and played a significant role in prepar tions for the 1943 invasion of Sicily and, crucially, the D-Day landings in Normandy in June 1944.
