YOUNG people from Tarbert feature prominently in these pages just about every week.
In common with youngsters in Lochgilphead, Ardfern, Inveraray and everywhere in between, they are a great bunch, getting involved in community clubs and projects and achieving great things. But when bad behaviour happens, we have to report that, too. It must have been heartbreaking for volunteers at Tarbert Castle to go up there on Monday to find other people’s rubbish all over the place along with the results of pointless vandalism. After the amount of time and effort they put into this local cause, they must have felt in some way betrayed. Other nearby residents must also have been affected on Saturday to report the situation to the police.
In all this, though, we must retain perspective and acknowledge that our youngsters are no worse than many and better than most around the country. There is no excuse for antisocial behaviour, but they have time to learn, to grow up. And the Mid Argyll community is a pretty good place to learn.
