A Short Film About Love (Kieslowski, 1988, Poland, Cert 15)
After a splendid Day in the Dark of classic films last Saturday, culminating in a screening of Doctor Zhivago, which reminded everyone of what an amazing film it is, Corrie Film Club has its regular February slot tomorrow night (Sunday).
This month is devoted to European cinema – specifically Poland – with a screening of A Short Film About Love directed by Krzytof Kieslowski. Part of a series of films based on the Ten Commandments, this one concerning adultery. It is an ironic drama about a shy 19-year-old who becomes infatuated by an older and more sophisticated woman. Despite their sharply contrasting views about what constitutes love, they discover that they have more I common than they think.
