The Ardrossan-based Mainland Taxis are to pilot a new hospital taxi share service which they hope will fill some of the void left by the Red Cross hospital transfer service which ended in June.
Looking to help solve some of the difficulties patients have been experiencing in getting to the hospital, the taxi firm are to offer the scheme to patients and relatives who are travelling to Crosshouse, Ayr and Irvine Central hospitals.
Peter McGuiness of Mainland Taxis said: ‘From the start of September when someone phones to book a taxi to take them to the hospital they will be offered the hospital taxi share service as an option. If another person has phoned for the same hospital and the same ferry time then a taxi can be shared which will help to keep the costs down.
