WHAT’S NEXT IN THE FIGHT FOR TRANS EQUALITY?
Cast your mind back to 2012. There was no Kellie Maloney. No Caitlyn Jenner on Vanity Fair. No Laverne Cox on TIME magazine. No trans people had ever been invited onto Question Time. Stonewall didn’t campaign for trans people. There was no Boy Meets Girl on BBC, no Rebecca Root, no trans people in EastEnders, played by trans actors like Riley Carter Millington. No Jack Monroe, no James Dawson, no Owen Jones standing up for trans rights. Yes, we’ve had some transBig Brother winners and that was wonderful, but three years ago, there were very few trans people in public life and allies were fewer still.
