The October Australian Railway History has three NSW-orientated articles, albeit covering very different topics. Part 2 of Ken Williams’ article on parcel and small consignment traffic covers the Public Transport Commission era and the introduction of franked labels and ‘Blue Spot’ parcels labels, while also covering labels used for interstate traffic.
Graham Harper presents his review of the signalling technology of the Sydney Metropolitan Goods Lines and its evolution over the years in response to changing traffic demands. Jim Longworth’s ‘Sleeping in Concrete’ article reviews the pre-stressed concrete residences and crew barracks constructed by the NSW Railways in the 1920s. A short Explorer item from Ian Brady on the ‘forgotten’ Henty Station in Victoria rounds off the issue.
