Australian Railway History opens 2016 with fascinating articles from three new contributors. John Harken, a long-standing WAGR driver recalls his early years as a call boy at Fremantle. Austin Mooney follows with his account of the role of the Goulburn community in lobbying with the first NSW railway to that centre, the surveys of the route and construction of the Marulan–Goulburn section of the line.
Terry Richardson describes his railway journey from Broken Hill to Brewarrina in western NSW via Orange in the midst of winter during 1970 in ‘Colder than a Mother-in-law’s Kiss’. Clearly Terry has a special aptitude for telling his tale with flair and humour. The issue concludes with John Cooper’s story of firing a 57 Class locomotive in the late 1950s.
