You can’t have missed the devastation caused by the Amazon rainforest fires. It’s a tragedy for the environment, for wildlife and for humankind. But most of all, it’s a wake-up call – an overdue message that we can’t go on as we are. Issues such as deforestation, animal agriculture and global warming were just a selection of problems brought to the global media’s attention as the Amazon burned. While on the one hand, it’s great to shine a light on such problems that need urgent attention, it shouldn’t have taken something as catastrophic as the fires to make us all sit up and listen. This is not just Brazil’s problem. Nor is it South America’s.
