A CAREER which began in the circus arena below Blackpool Tower and journeyed beneath the famous arch at Wembley Stadium came to an end last week, when former British cruiserweight champion Matty Askin decided to officially call time on his 10-year run in the pro game.
Still just 30 years old, Askin, 23-4-1 (15), claimed Central Area, English and British titles during a successful career, and although further title opportunities were under discussion, he could no longer summon up the fire to take advantage of them.
“Following my fight against Lawrence Okolie in September last year, I had surgery on my shoulder which had been causing me trouble for some time. When I recovered from my injury I started to train again and planned on having one final year in the sport”, Askin told BN.
