EUROCITIES milestones – 1986-2016


EUROCITIES is established by six founding cities: Barcelona, Birmingham, Frankfurt, Lyon, Milan and Rotterdam.


Six core cities formally agree on ‘rules of association’ and are endorsed at the annual conference in September 1991:

1. To collaborate as a network of cities to further the mutual interests of member cities in their role as centres of economic, technical, social and cultural development.

2. To influence the decision making process of the European Community institutions.
