Wow, 200 issues. Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun? We produced the first issue
of Classic Car Buyer back in December 2009 and that really doesn’t seem that long ago. It’s quite
strange to think that back in that first issue we bemoaned the government of the day for rejecting the calls of classic car enthusiasts to exempt historic vehicles from the scrappage scheme. That’s something that’s still fairly fresh in my mind but apparently several years have passed since we first covered that story. Then again, the threat posed to classic cars by ethanol-rich petrol seems like something recent too, though apparently we’ve been reporting on all the updates relating
to how biofuel doesn’t agree with certain components within our cars’ fuel systems for over two years… Of course, our enthusiasm for classics hasn’t changed and we continue in our attempt to both bring readers the most comprehensive and up-to-date news relating to our hobby, in addition to packing in as much info and as many features on cars from all eras as the space in each issue allows. We hope our efforts are appreciated and judging by the fact that we’ll shortly be
celebrating our fourth birthday I like to think that you all do. So, how have we decided to celebrate this milestone issue of CCB? Well, as a child of the ’Eighties I was keen to get as many of my poster pin-ups in this issue as possible and Iain Wakefield’s feature on supercars capable of surpassing 200mph certainly does that with the Jaguar XJ220, McLaren F1 and the Ferrari F40. Not quite a 200mph supercar, in spite of its looks, but the Lotus Esprit also features in issue
200 and Jack Grover can reveal that while the V8 models are (as you would expect) expensive to run, the same isn’t necessarily true of the four-cylinder models, which can cost
from as little as £2000 in running costs a year. Is all that too sporty for you? Fear not; Ian Cushway’s ‘200 Club’ article – made up of cars with ‘200’ in their nomenclature
