Classic Truck  |  Classic Trucks Autumn 2013
Renault’s mighty Magnum is being replaced by a high-cabbed flat-floor version of its all-new
T-range. The last two Magnums for the UK market have been bought by Freight Transport Ltd and will be used on international work, travelling mainly – ironically – to the South of France (page 6).
We found a surviving Volvo FL614 (page 10) following the short piece on the civilianspec versions in the last issue of Classic Truck. Reader Andy Jenkins is a director of a company running one he thinks might have been from the batch ordered by Hydro Electric. Neil Johnston’s family has a long history in the trucking industry, and Neil’s father’s first Scania holds dear to the family. In fact it
meant so much to Neil, when his father was going to sell it after buying a newer truck, he decided to buy it himself and restore it (page 14). Our model profile this issue shines the spotlight on Volvo’s FH – celebrating 20 years in 2013 (page 20), while we show off the work of Tam and Davie Gillespie following the total restoration of a 1972 AEC Mandator (page 28). Stand by to be impressed! A man in Wales owns a stunning ERF he takes to shows, while his wife owns a Scania rigid show truck and is trying to persuade her husband to switch allegiance (page 36), and there’s more from Peter
Davies’ archives (page 38) showing trucks at work in the 1990s. Our centre spread shows a frozen
95-series DAF belonging to Stevens International on a run between England and Switzerland, and we have a story of an operator in the UK who ran a Kenworth on tipper work (page 44). Brave man!
We’ve raided our archives and found some more oddball items from the past for our Nostalgia slot (page 50), we’ve got another taste of operators of the past from Kent (page 52), and Stephen Forster has sent us some more cracking shots of oldies at work (page 56), with wreckers in focus this time.
