For a break away from the stress of modern life, a meditation retreat could be just what the doctor ordered. In my case, a visit to a Buddhist centre in rural Yorkshire meant a weekend switched off from technology and switched on to giving myself time with my mind; an experience that left me feeling like I’d found a beautiful secret I just had to share.
Located at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds in an impressive Georgian building called Kilnwick Percy Hall, the Madhyamaka Kadampa Buddhist Centre (madhyamaka.org) sits outside Pocklington, a stone’s throw away from York. It enjoys a picturesque backdrop of forests, fields, a walled garden and a beautiful lake. It may not be far from the city but it feels a million miles away from the rush.
