Beyond the TARDIS

A round-up of what the cast and crew of Doctor Who have been up to away from the series...

Peter Curries Favour

Peter Capaldi is reprising the meanspirited next-door neighbour Mr Curry for Paddington 2, which began principal photography in October. The picture, scheduled for UK release on 10 November 2017, stars Hugh Bonneville and includes Comic Relief Doctors Hugh Grant and Jim Broadbent plus the voice of Imelda Staunton. A third movie is also planned.

Doctor Who Royalty

Matt Smith attended a special screening of Netflix’s The Crown, in which he plays Prince Philip, at New York’s MOMA on 23 October and also recorded CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert broadcast on 28 October. A second series is in production with an option for more. Launching The Crown in the UK, Matt was a guest on BBC One’s The Graham Norton Show on 4 November. Jenna Coleman’s Victoria (Series One is now available on DVD) will have a Christmas Special in 2017. Given Victoria’s long reign, there is debate about how long Jenna might play the role, although any early departure seems highly unlikely. Jenna attended Tiffany & Co’s In Conversation on 13 October followed by MIPCOM in Cannes promoting the series, which has now been sold to more than 150 countries.
