Let me tell you about the lovely Gale Bantock, a 1/12th scale prize
winning miniaturist and model maker. Gale trained as an Antique
Ceramics Restorer in the 1980s at the famous West Dean College
and was self employed, working from a workshop in Hastings,
repairing cracks, chips and dents along with creating new limbs
for Meissen fi gures. After visiting a miniatures fair to stock up
on essential spare parts she found the inspiration to have a go at
making her own fi gures and used the materials and techniques
that she had been trained to work with to create her fi rst doll.
She perfected her fi nishing techniques using tissue paper to create
the look of old fabric, and her style was born. Gale entered a few
items into our very own Miniaturist of the Year competition in
1993 and came second. Invitations to exhibit at Miniatura and the
London Dolls House Festival came immediately and Gale has been
a regular at the shows ever since. Turn to page 15 to read about
Gale Bantock, The Porcelain Prize Winner.
Also in this month’s magazine we preview the Dolls House &
Miniatures Fair at York Racecourse, Rik Pierce talks about his
favourite creation to date, Deb Weissler chats to Luned Davis about
wedding dresses and Julie Warren creates a stunning kitchen table,
ideal for any country cottage.
