Don’t miss September’s 132-page issue of FlyPast. Our cover star is that most iconic of jet warbirds, Avro Vulcan B.2 XH558. With the mighty jet likely to make its final flight next year, we bring you an exclusive interview with its owners as they reveal their plans for the remainder of this year, and look ahead to 2015. Also in this issue we look back at another Cold War-era jet, albeit one that was doomed to failure, the controversial BAC TSR.2.

THUNDERBOLT SPECIAL
Our 20-page Spotlight section focuses on the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, one of the most robust and versatile single-engined aircraft of World War Two. With exclusive artwork and rarely seen archive images, we reflect on its history and its use as a war machine.

ARNHEM TRIBUTE
To mark the 70th anniversary of Operation Market Garden, we describe how Allied fighters were used to protect the vulnerable formations of troop-carrying aircraft and gliders on their way to the hotly contested drop zones.

AMERICAN SABRE
The world’s only airworthy North American F-86A Sabre is leaving Duxford for a new home in the US. Words and air-to-air photography from Richard Paver.

LANCASTER MISSION
Canadian Lancaster pilot Cliff Black had an unusual passenger for a raid on the Ruhr – a Roman Catholic padre! Ken Wright and Anne Gafiuk investigate.

ONE OF THE GREATS – AVRO
Ken Ellis reflects on the history of one of Britain’s greatest aircraft manufacturers – Manchester-based Avro.

We also report from superb warbird-themed airshows at Duxford and Old Warden, and take a visit to the unique flying boat museum at Pembroke Dock in Wales. There’s breaking news about an exciting project to restore a Hawker Tempest to airworthy status in the UK, and reports from the US about another Corsair flying, and the prototype Skyraider going on display in New York. We also bring you the concluding part of Ben Dunnell’s account of the filming of 1990’s Memphis Belle.

Digital subscription for Flypast magazine

I have purchased the Flypast magazine for many years and generally as a hard copy. However, for the last couple of years l have subscribed annually to the digital version and now read on my iPad.
The magazine is great and I always find the content interesting and varied and never bored with the topics covered. Whilst previously enjoying the hard copy l am now a devoted digital subscriber and would recommend this version. On the downside you miss out on add ons such as calendars etc.
