An indication that switching to smaller portions may be easier than we think… In an experiment by scientists at the University of Liverpool, diners who were served smaller lunch portions on just one day went on to choose smaller portions when serving themselves the next. What’s more, when shown photos of meals up to a week later and asked to pick out which were the ‘right’ size, those who had been served smaller portions in the experiment pointed to the smaller sizes. This suggests downsizing home-cooked and processed foods could fairly rapidly reset expectations, lower calorie intakes and may also play a useful role in stimulating weight loss without actively trying to diet.
