Knowing what and how much to feed toddlers has never been easy, but the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) is helping make things clearer. Aimed at providing advice on portion sizes and healthy eating for children aged one to four, the BNF’s 5532 guide recommends five portions of starchy foods, five (or more) portions of fruit and veg, three portions of dairy and two portions of protein each day. Portion size ranges are given for most foods, a nod to the fact that the guide covers a range of ages and that young children’s appetites can vary from day to day.
