As the world ponders the versatility of hemp (Cannabis Sativa L.), other benefits of the plant are being explored – which is big news for the beauty industry. Arguably the biggest focus has been on cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive compound taken from the hemp plant. Once extracted, it’s mixed with a carrier oil – often hemp seed or coconut – to create CBD oil. Scientists are still investigating the benefits of CBD in beauty products, but it’s thought that it can interact with the body’s network of neurotransmitters called endocannabinoids, resulting in deeper ingredient penetration and improved moisture retention.
