The Romans were right about a lot – road construction, plumbing – but not when it came to rhubarb. They called people who ate the pink stalks ‘barbarians’ – in Latin ‘rhababarum’ meaning ‘root of the barbarians’. Well, call us barbaric, because with its shining nutritional profile, the tart treat is a winner for us.
