I wanted to make it summer all year round
When Lucy Barnes returned to the UK after a long holiday in Australia, she wanted her home to remind her of the sunny climate down under

My room...
My problem living room
Its size was fantastic, but it was in desperate need of modernising. The walls were painted pink and it had a horrid dark floor, zapping all the light out of the room. The pipework also had some awful plastic casing around the edges and you could tell the electrics hadn’t been touched in ages. After living in Australia for a year, I needed to brighten the space up!
A bit about me Hi, my name is Lucy Barnes and I live with my partner Nick Harper in our two-bedroom apartment in London.

How I made it work
I couldn’t wait to get rid of the dark floor. Despite the large windows, the colour made the room so depressing. I replaced it with a pale grey laminate and chose some stunning feature wallpaper to cover the salmon pink walls. A modern colour scheme of greys and lemons has given the room a fresh new look.
