Nola Tegal from Australia painting in Umbria
Sheila de Vries has been running painting holidays in Italy since 2004, building up a loyal following with more than 85 per cent of her guests returning each year. Such success can be attributed to Sheila’s great attention to detail – getting to know exactly what guests want from the holiday before they arrive; selecting high quality hotels that provide a luxurious experience and excellent food; a team of highly experienced tutors, including Diana Ali, mentor in the BBC Great Painting Challenge, painter, writer and public speaker, Fiona Graham-Mackay, and popular artists and authors, Christopher Forsey and Joe Dowden; stunning locations; and Sheila’s ability to bring together a group of likeminded people in a stimulating, yet relaxed atmosphere. She is on hand at all of the holidays, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
As winner of The British Travel Awards ‘Best Single Holidays’ award, the holidays are ideal for guests travelling alone. All rooms are double, with en-suite facilities and no single supplement charged, and Sheila takes great care in making single guests feel comfortable. Groups are kept to a maximum of ten to ensure plenty of one-to-one attention. All media are covered, with easels, chairs and supports provided, and all levels are welcome. Four hours of tuition each morning leaves guests with afternoons free, either to continue with their painting, or to go for a swim or visit the town if preferred. Locations coming up in 2019 include: Lucca in May; Umbria, Cortona, Tuscany and Lake Garda in June; Tuscany, Umbria and Florence in August and September; Venice in October; and a Christmas holiday to Florence in December.
