WORLDWIDE
An element of mystery runs through every one of Sofar Sounds’ gigs. Now in its tenth year, the project is about to add its 400th participating city, but the concept has remained as low-key as when it started in a London flat. Ticket-holders often find out the exact venue just the day before the event, while the artist lineup is only revealed right at the beginning of the show. While there’s nothing new about bands playing in undisclosed locations, Sofar Sounds steers away from warehouses and the like, in favour of a more intimate atmosphere: many events take place in private homes. Other non-traditional venues have included boats and breweries; one Barcelona audience last year found itself on the roof of the whimsical, Gaudí-designed Casa Batlló (pictured).
