A suit of samurai armour, Queen Nefertiti’s gold ring and this 19th-century Japanese woodblock print of two kabuki actors are just three of the intriguing exhibits that are to go on show at the National Museum of Scotland this month. The pinnacle of 15 years’ work and £80 million spent transforming the institution and its Victorian building, three new galleries will explore Ancient Egypt and East Asia, as well as ceramic artworks from around the world. Nearly half the exhibits have never been displayed before, so it's a unique opportunity to get a first glimpse of a vanished world. Free entry; nms.ac.uk
