The time is long past when we had to be content with the same old kit for decades. When Tamiya produced their version of the le. Schützenpanzerwagen back in the ‘70s we were happy; then came along Dragon some twenty years later with their version. Most of its many variants were kitted by the Chinese manufacturer, but the Sd.Kfz 250/9 Ausf. A was a conspicuous absentee, although it had been on Tamiya’s list for years. I, however, wanted to make this early ‘slash-nine’ and wanted to use the much better detailed Dragon kit as my base. Having found quite a lot of original images and wartime documents, I focused on a vehicle used by Pz.Aufkl. Abt. 13 of 13 Panzer Division during the spring of 1944. In this article I’ll show the steps I took to make a respectable conversion of the Dragon kit.
