SOUTH SUDAN
Mingkaman camp, South Sudan— Relatives mourn a family member who died of cholera at a temporary hospital in a camp for internally displaced people on April 26. Famine was officially declared in South Sudan in February, and that has aggravated outbreaks of deadly diseases like cholera, measles and malaria. Civil war has made conditions even worse, displacing civilians and cutting of aid. The U.S. relief agency Samaritan’s Purse pulled most of its staff in February because of fighting, and seven staff members were abducted and held for several days before being released, NPR reported.
