Bathers braved icy waters at Oban’s annual New Year’s Day dip - or ‘loony dook’ - by jumping into the freezing Firth of Lorn from Oban Sailing Club. Among them was Grant Addison, whose expression speaks volumes about the temperature of the water. Loony dooks are also held in the Firth of Forth at North Berwick, Kirkcaldy and South Queensferry, where the tradition was devised 30 years ago as a drastic hangover cure.
A 42-YEAR-OLD man died near Oban on New Year’s day following a quad bike accident.
Police Scotland confirmed the news, with a spokesperson saying that there was a road crash at Lerags at 8.40pm and a report into the circumstances has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
