MORE accidents have occurred on the A82 than on the A9 in the past six years, prompting fresh calls for investment.
Figures released this week, following a Freedom of Information request, show 530 accidents occurred on the A82 between 2012 and mid-2017 – 24 more than on the A9. Although the A82 had more serious and slight accidents than the A9, there were 27 fatal accidents on the A82 last year compared to 30 on the A9.
Stewart MacLean, of the A82 Partnership, said: ‘These statistics will come as no surprise to those who commute and use the road and are regularly impacted by the accident rate and death toll. ‘The £3 billion investment in the A9 and the paltry sums spent on the A82 bear no comparison, despite the high traffic and accident rate.’
