THE £20,000 ‘golden hello’ scheme for trainee GPs, a new initiative heralded by the Scottish Government, will only be applicable to two posts in the NHS Highland area next year.
The scheme will offer a one-off bursary of £20,000 to trainee GPs committed to working in one of 37 training posts in Scotland which are in areas and programmes that have proven difficult to recruit to in the past.
Highlands and Islands Labour MSP David Stewart, in a parliamentary question, asked Health Secretary Shona Robison how many bursary places would be available in his region and was told there will be two.
