IT IS now full steam ahead on the first phase of the planned new play park for Caol, with news that the construction contract has now been awarded. It has taken three years for those behind the initiative to get to this stage, but Damian MacDonald, from the organising committee of charity Caol Play, has confirmed that the contract to build phase one has been awarded to Wicksteed, one of the UK’s premier playground equipment suppliers and installers.
Mr MacDonald said Wicksteed is hoping to start work on the £190,000 first phase on the site, just off Banavie Road near to the Gaelic school, in the middle of next month.
‘The hope is that work will be completed in time for the school summer holidays, although there might be the chance construction runs on until mid-July,’ Mr MacDonald told the Lochaber Times this week. ‘It’s been a long journey but it is fantastic to finally get the contract for phase one awarded – although I still won’t believe it myself until I see it start coming out of the ground.’
