What is the first thing that springs to mind when you hear the term: raw food diet? You possibly have visions of a salad-only future, and may grimace at the thought of eating certain vegetables uncooked. But eating foods in their natural state – raw – can offer a host of benefits, while helping you avoid nasties that many modern-day, pre-prepared food can contain, such as artificial sugars, colours and flavourings. Following a raw diet doesn’t mean you have to completely cut out cooked food, it just means you need to ensure that at least 75 per cent of your food has not been heated above 48°C/118°F. So you don’t necessarily need to give up your favourite cooked treats to follow and see the benefits of a raw diet – there is definite leeway!
