Professional Photo  |  Issue 204
We could all do with a few feel-good stories right now, and we’ve got a couple in the latest issue of Professional Photo that should help to raise a smile. Our Portfolio feature, and the story that yields our cover shot this month, is a profile of inspirational photographer Alissa Everett, who started her career shooting images of conflict as the Iraq war unfolded. After a while, however, she realised that holding up a camera to record the misfortune of others wasn’t what she was cut out to do, and since that time she’s been focusing instead on recording more uplifting stories that tell of the strength of the human spirit, and she’s put her money where her mouth is by setting up the Exposing Hope charity to put something back into the communities where she’s been working. There’s another remarkable woman featured in our Project story this month, as we tell how wildlife photographer Margot Raggett responded in the most positive way imaginable after coming across an elephant that had been poached. Shocked by what she saw, she went away and came up with the idea for a book of images of elephants that could be sold to raise money for their conservation. That was the first in what is now a highly successful series of ‘Remembering’ books, which have collectively raised over a million pounds to date to protect the animals that no-one wants to see consigned to the memory. Particularly appropriate to this time of year we’re also taking a look at the gear you’ll need to be packing should you be considering taking a trip off grid, and we’ve got updates and advice on the batteries and memory that’s guaranteed not to let you down. We’re also testing out Fujifilm’s attractively-priced new X-T5 mirrorless model, and we’ve got reviews of the new battery-powered Elinchrom FIVE, StellaPro Reflex X and Zhiyun’s powerful and affordable Fiveray FR100C, with the opportunity to win one of these remarkable fixtures. Plus a round-up of cutting-edge monitors from BenQ, Philips and EIZO.
