AGEING ROLLING STOCK
METHOUGHT Sim Harris’s response to Robert Talbot’s letter (October’s Railnews) was somewhat brusque.
Instead of more cars for the Furness Line it seems that more 185s will be taken from it, and the Windermere branch, before the new dawn promised in the new Northern franchise. Robert Talbot [chairman of Lakes Line Rail User Group] and his colleagues fight a devoted battle for the people served by the railways in Cumbria. The region has been treated shabbily by the powers that allocate rolling stock – can Sim Harris name another line where both the quality and capacity of stock has been so reduced in the face of growing demand?
