The rowing course for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic and Paralympic Games is set on the stunning Lake Rodrigo de Freitas. Close to the glamorous Ipenema and Copacabana beaches and beautiful surrounding suburbs of Leblon, Gavea and Jardim Botanico; the lake is a large salt water lagoon connected via a channel to the Atlantic Ocean.
As a rowing course it is one of the most unique in the world situated within the heart of Rio. Set against a spectacular backdrop of the Tijuca Forest, Corcovado Mountain and Christ the Redeemer statue; the Lake is surrounded by the Rio metropolis, with buildings and hotels close by. The vegetation surrounding the lake makes it part of a green corridor within the city. To have the opportunity to race on such a course under the majestic and impressive statue will give athletes an experience they will cherish forever.
