There’s a lot of debate in yarn land, isn’t there, about the various merits of synthetic vs natural fibres? We’ve each got to make our own call on it. I certainly wouldn’t judge what anyone else chooses to hook with, but I for one am proudly team natural. Let me tell you why.
A MYRIAD OF VIRTUES
I think natural yarns are a little bit magic. Each fibre has its own special properties, and you can use that knowledge to pick the best fit for your project. Cotton’s a no-brainer for crochet. It’s breezy and moisture-wicking for warm-weather garments, and has a gloriously sharp stitch definition for amigurumi and textured work. Plus, it blocks like an absolute dream – an attribute all natural fibres share. Silk is like the boujie aunt. She’s luxe, she’s light and she’s cool, with that unmistakable pearly lustre. Linen’s a breathable cool customer too, and I have a soft spot for extra-cosy alpaca.
