Stationary Engine  |  No.479 Ruston ZPR
I am sorry to bring up the subject yet
again but, I have been advised by
a number of those brave souls who
volunteer their time and expertise
to assist others in this hobby of ours
as Helpline participants that people
are neglecting to include a stamped
addressed envelope with their enquiries.
Maybe you think “What is all the fuss
about, it’s only a stamp”? but when you
multiply that by five or ten stamps per
month, as is the case for one or two
Helpliners, then the costs quickly add
up. I am aware that one or two Helpline
men have a strict policy “No stamped
addressed envelope, then no reply”.
Enquiries made by email are not a
problem as there is no cost incurred but, if
you use Royal Mail and expect to receive a
reply, then the least you can do is to include
a stamped addressed envelope with your
enquiry.
Museum Funding
In these austere days, when sponsorship
from any source is hard to come by, I
was pleased to received the following
communication from Peter Miller of the
Irish Museum Funding, it reads; “Dear
Editor. The preservation movement
may be pleased to hear that we have
received 60% funding from Wexford
Local development (National Rural
Development Programme) to erect a
large machinery hall (90 feet x 45 feet) at
the Irish Agricultural Museum and have
started on the foundations already.
“We also intend to fit a lift in our
present building in early January to
help anyone with a disability to be able to
visit our upper floor. It is hoped to have it
all ready for March 2014 so it will give us
more room to show our large objects, and
maybe even a few more stationary engines.
“Some of our large objects are a
Threshing mill, straw elevator, a Coast
Guard life-saving horse-drawn cart
manufactured by the Bristol Wagon &
Carriage Works, and a Silverman hay
cock maker. We are also in the process
of restoring a Ferguson Brown tractor to
show with our other Ferguson range of
tractors.
