PIA DIERICKX / NATURE’S BEST PHOTOGRAPHY AFRICA
“We were in the Serengeti in the open plains, and from a distance we could see a lonely zebra, which was strange. When we approached him, we noticed that he was separated from his group because of a broken leg. In the distance, we spotted a group of lion; they had seen him too. Soon the pride approached and struck. The zebra was well aware of their presence, and as soon as they were close he turned his back to them. It looked as if he did not want to face them, knowing it would be a fatal encounter.”
