Most people are happy with one reef tank, but Mike and Terry Lauderdale have certainly gone at least one better. Luckily, they are happy to share their two gorgeous reef tanks with us in A Tale of Two Reefs. And if you fancy a walk on the wild side, you simply must read Richard Smith's article Reefs in the Wild: Raja Ampat and drink in the fabulous images from his exploration of one of the world's richest reef habitats. Stunning!
It might seem as if the marine hobby has been around for ever, but it is surprisingly young. Alf J Nilsen tells us what, in his opinion, are the important milestones in the history of marine aquaria in Europe in From Graveyard to Biology. Coming right up to date, Richard Aspinall gets his hands on one of TMC's new Optiwhite systems, and finds it very much to his liking.
On the technical side, Tomas Cornwell gives us a good insight into dealing with a very bothersome pest – one that causes many problems in our aquaria – in Aiptasia Control, while Alex Arlett-Johnson guides us through the processes and equipment necessary for Culturing Live Food for your Reef and Fish Larvae at Home. Great stuff.
On the conservation front, Christiane Schmidt of SAIA shares her thoughts on the status of the Hawaiian Aquarium Fishery, and the implications for the hobby if it is closed, in Turf War in Hawaii, while John Clipperton's always informative Fishes in Focus series continues with a look at the genus commonly known as the yellow wrasses in The Wrasses of the Halichoeres Genus.
There are also our regular features – Marine News, full of the latest news from the marine world, and Questions & Answers—one of our most popular features—where our marine expert, David Wolfenden, answers a selection of marine queries posed by readers.
