In Midigama, Ahangama, in the southern area of Sri Lanka, there is a dedicated team of volunteers working tirelessly to save and rehabilitate the country’s animals. Animal SOS Sri Lanka provides important education to locals and vital veterinary services to improve the welfare of animals on the island.
Founded in 2007 by Kim Cooling, it became an operational charity in 2009. Kim had visited the island 20 years previously, and the horrific attitude and treatment of animals left her feeling that she had to do more. It took time to raise enough money to buy land, build a clinic and spaces for the animals to live in, but Kim’s ideas quickly became reality and Animal SOS Sri Lanka became fully functioning.
