Superfood has been a buzzword for the past decade, indicating a powerful, nutrient-packed, vitamin-rich food that has the potential to improve our health and wellbeing. Mostly, these foods are rich in antioxidants, like beta carotene, vitamins A, C and E, flavonoids and selenium, and omega-3 fatty acids that we hope will minimise cell damage and protect us from diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Superfoods are almost always unprocessed, whole, raw foods, but living on blueberries alone won’t do you any favours — even superfoods should always be eaten as part of a healthy and balanced diet.
